What is xserve.net?
We are a data center
based, colocation service. We provide you with a menu of services
including multiple redundant very high speed
internet connections, remote control
electrical power, a highly
secure location to
house your Xserve,
remote monitoring and remote
human hands. You can
then control your server via any remote
protocol you like.
Where do I get the xserve.
You may either ship one to us, or we can purchase it directly
for you.
How do I get it to you, set it up etc?
Details are here.
How do I control the xserve?
In addition to the built in administartion tool in osx server; there are a
variety of remote
control tools available such as Timbuktu and Apple Remote Desktop. We
have used them for years to control servers thousands of miles away and they
work very well. xservecolo.net will install an evaluation
copy of Timbuktu, good for 30 days on any Xserve that indicates they would
like us to do so. You can get a free evaluation copy from here.
How do I control my account?
See our support
site. A demo password is there for you to try.
What if I need to reboot?
Use the remote power control. This
will allow you to turn on and off the electricity to the Xserve. It
is accessible from the web, password protected and assigned
one per Xserve.
What about hardware failure?
In case of hardware failure we will repair the units. However
they are your units and you will be charged for the repairs.
What if the xserve is too much for me?
Why not use an mac mini...click here
What applications or other software can I run on
my Xserve?
You may run whatever software you
like as long as it does not violate our acceptable
use policy. (In short; no
SPAM, open relays or illegal activity)
How much does it cost?
See our pricing page.
Do I get my own IP address?
Yes. Each xservecolocated at xservecolo.net has two (2) unique, routable IP
address. You may purchase more if you need them.
What about a fully qualified domain name (FQDN)?
In addition to a static, routable
IP address, each Xserve is given a unique host name like: yourchoice.xserve.net
How fast is the network?
The theoretical
upper limit of the network is far far beyond the Xserve. The network was built
to accommodate one of our other projects;
Pure
Static.
Do I have physical access to my Mac Xserve?
In order to keep security to high
standards and costs low, we cannot allow anyone into the data center itself.
What if my Xserve needs to be serviced?
We will either service it for you or Fed Ex it back to you.
Can I share my Mac Xserve?
Yes, you control access to your Xservei. If you wish to share the access that
is your decision. It is not prohibited.
Where can I find a copy of the terms and conditions?
Here
Do you offer a reseller program?
We do offer a Macintosh Consultants Partner Program. However this is for consultants
who are already in the business of providing solutions and support on the
macintosh. It is not a reseller program like those offered by shared hosting
services.
Can you help me set things up?
We don't do direct setup and maintenance of specific software, but we
have a good number of consultants you can contact. Find
a consultant.
Can you tell us a little bit about the company?
We have been working with
colocating macs since 1999. At that point in time, the only thing you could
do was rip apart a perfectly good iMac
and mount it in a Marathon rack mount case. We also managed to use old
ATA power supplies to get Blue and White
G3s crammed into 2U cases (Most
of these are still in service!)
These days we
do complex mac based hosting for a number of large corporate entities. Our
current
projects
include Underwriters
Technologies, macminicolo.net and Pure
Static. We deal in things like Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and OSHA reporting.
